In Cold Ink: On the Writers Tracks by David Robinson
If you ever wondered what to read next for your book group, look no further. David Robinson, literary editor of The Scotsman for over eight years, has put together a magical book. In simple terms it is a collection of his interviews with his favourite authors from William Boyd to A L Kennedy, but what he has really done is create a wonderful reading list for his audience. His interviews are more of an appreciation of the writing in question rather than the colour of the author’s socks. He leads his readers of a journey of discovery and re-discovery of writers and their writing. I defy anyone to read this book and not then immediately rush to read at least two of his recommendations.
So, perfect for reading groups, but also for giving to those keen readers who you never know what to buy. Personally, I have loved finally getting round to reading Kate Atkinson and rediscovering William Boyd. The latter’s Any Human Heart was chosen for my book group read on the strength of reading In Cold Ink.
