Death of an Ocean by Euan Clarkson & Brian Upton
Friday 2nd October 2009
We just managed to seat 70 people in the shop to listen to Euan Clarkson and Brian Upton talk about their new book on the geology of the Borders region. The audience had many questions to ask and the authors brought along fascinating samples of fossils.
Euan Clarkson, a palaeontologist, and Brian Upton, a petrologist, have collaborated at the University of Edinburgh for more than forty years. Now in retirement from fulltime academic life they write to share their enthusiasm for geology and to bring their extensive knowledge to a wider, less technical audience. A review of their earlier book, Edinburgh Rock – The Geology of Lothian, said ‘this is an excellent book; it is authoritative yet entertaining and a thoroughly good read... the authors have … created a text that is somehow more than the sum of the parts.’ (Geological Magazine)
