Into Danger by Kate Adie
Over 200 people turned out to hear the hugely respected journalist, Kate Adie talking about her new book, Into Danger. The book looks at the people behind the most dangerous jobs in the world, from food tasters to terrorists and deep sea divers.
In her fascinating talk, Ms Adie made it clear that she saw the journalists’ role as a conduit between action and audience (get the story on time, not yourself shot), while the subjects of her book were the ones really putting themselves in danger simply by doing their jobs. However she admitted to breaking her own rule when covering the horrific events in Tiananmen Square in 1998 when she was one of only two journalists on the ground with a camera crew, while almost all the other members of the press viewed events from their hotel balconies.
