Millers Antiques Guide by Judith Miller

Judith Miller was up in the Borders filming the Antiques Roadshow at Abbotsford and we were lucky enough to book her for an event at the shop on the 4th July.  Brought up in Galashiels, Judith began collecting in the 1960s while a student at Edinburgh University.

She charmed her audience with a fascinating talk on how she first became interested in antiques, searching out treasure in the junk shops of Edinburgh.  Her advice on how to spot the real thing was very useful and down to earth - one example she gave was of being offered a 'Ming' vase to value only to read 'dishwasher friendly' on the bottom!  One member of the audience caught her attention when he mentioned buying four pieces of jade from eBay on a hunch that they were good quality - he's now selling them for 15 times the purchase price.
