JAMIE BLACKETT – AUTHOR EVENT
Please join us to hear radical voice of the countryside, Jamie Blackett, talking about his new book, Land of Milk and Honey, at Mainstreet on Tues 19th July.
Blackett finds himself in danger of losing the family farm as his beef business encounters difficulties and the spectre of Brexit bears down on the farming community. Meanwhile he feels under threat from environmentalists attacking the very concept of livestock farming and by Scottish nationalism threatening the break-up of the United Kingdom. The book is the heart-warming story of how he copes with the crisis by following the example of New Zealand farmers, successfully switching to dairy farming, embracing the new creed of regenerative agriculture. Through his struggle, the reader comes to understand the crossroads facing the British countryside as it adapts to free trade after eighty years of agricultural subsidies.
Praise for Blackett’s previous book, Red Rag to a Bull:
‘…beautifully written, there is no better one-volume guide to rural matters. Every politician should read it, as should anyone who cares about the countryside. It is a pleasure from first page to last’ –Bruce Anderson, The Spectator
