Last week for the Easter Bank Holiday we had the delight of having Lillias Kinsman-Chauvet visit the shop to run a fun-filled workshop. Not only did she run a workshop but she also created a wonderful window display based on her new picture book Too Snappy to Wear a Snappy. 

The lighthearted tale highlights the absurdity of nappies as seen through the eyes of a child. Would you dare put a nappy on a bear? Or a flamingo or a rhinoceros! No, that would simply be preposterous… And a crocodile is too snappy to wear a nappy!

About the workshop

Lillias led a fun packed hour of snappy songs and crocodile crafts which introduced all of the little ones in a gentle, playful, child–led way to the potty and showed them how they too can be wild and nappy free!

There was a snappy action-filled song all sung together and then the audience got to listen to Lillias read Too Snappy to Wear a Nappy. Then, everybody got to make their very own snappy crocodile to take home with them.

Lillias then got to meet all of the little ones at a book signing in the bookshop.

Window Display

Ahead of her workshop, Lillias came to the shop to climb into one of our windows and draw a big snappy crocodile on it. Fuelled by one of Sue’s delicious Hot Cross Buns, she spent the afternoon making a magnificent snappy crocodile for all of St Boswells to admire.

About Lillias

Lillias grew up in the Borders where her earliest memories are creative ones – the allure of the ‘art cupboard’ and eating sandwiches amongst red clay dust and drying pots. After 15 years as a performing musician and workshop leader she finds herself once again joyfully surrounded by paper, paint, pens and stories. Lillias lives in Glasgow with her family, six hens and a cat where she home educates her two children, writes stories and illustrates. In 2003 her debut picture book was selected for the dPICTUS Unpublished Picturebook Showcase for display at Bologna Children’s book fair & acquired by Boxer books for publication.
