This Autumn we are delighted to welcome back a Mainstreet favourite… Clare Balding will be with us on Mon 24th Sept talking about her bestselling children’s books.
When she was young, Clare Balding thought she was a dog. Disappointed to discover she was only human, she did her best to spend every waking hour with dogs and ponies. She could ride before she could walk and, growing up surrounded by racehorses trained by her father, she dreamt of winning the grand National or riding for Great Britain at the Olympics.
Little wonder then that she should turn her considerable talents to the world of children’s pony books. She writes in the tradition of classic animal stories such as Gerald Durrell’s My Family and Other Animals and Dick King-Smith’s The Sheep Pig but with a thoroughly modern twist and a fantastic, can-do heroine. Her first novel The Racehorse Who Wouldn’t Gallop was the second bestselling children’s debut of 2016, followed in 2017 by The Racehorse Who Disappeared, both are now out in paperback.
This is a family event aimed at children 7yrs and over.
