What are your opening hours?
Our temporary ‘Covid’ hours are:
Monday – closed
Tuesday-Saturday – 10-4pm
Sunday – 11-4pm
You can also order from our website.
Do you allow dogs in the café?
Yes, we welcome well behaved dogs in the café, and can provide water on request outside. However, please note dogs are not allowed to sit on their owners laps (noses tend to get a bit too close to the food), and I’m afraid we don’t allow them in the deli (the food is at ‘nose-height’).
Can I book a table in the café?
Yes, please call on 01835 824087 or email email@example.com.
Do you serve gluten free food in the cafe?
Yes, we make our own gluten free cakes, and our menu specifies the gluten free options, please ask our café staff for more information (all our sandwiches can be made as salads).
Do you have customer parking?
Yes, we have 16 spaces for cars, but please note that the ‘bottom’ car park (below the deli) is quite tight for larger cars.
Can I park my bike safely?
Yes, we have a bike rack to the side of the deli.
What’s the nearest train station?
Tweedbank is the terminus for the Borders Railway – this is 10 mins by car from Mainstreet, alternatively you can catch a bus to St Boswells, we’re a 3 min walk from the bus station.
Can I stop at Mainstreet on the open top bus tour?
Yes! We’d be delighted if you did, you can hop off and hop off throughout the Sightseeing Bus tour, allowing time for coffee/tea/lunch and a browse. The open top buses run through the summer months, for more details click here.
Do you have disabled parking?
Yes, we have one designated disabled parking space which allows good wheelchair access.
Is the shop wheelchair-friendly?
Yes, the bookshop & café is completely wheelchair-friendly, including a disabled toilet. The deli & home departments in the barn do have some steps, we are very happy to work around this, bringing the product to you.
Do you provide baby changing facilities?
Yes, we have a changing table in the café customer toilet and we keep a supply of FREE nappies and wipes for customers.
Can you order a book for me?
We’d be delighted to order a book for you – most titles are available within 24hrs, please call the shop 01835 824087.
Can I join your Book Group?
Yes, we run two book groups at Mainstreet – Daytime and Evening. Details of our next meetings are here (hyperlink), please feel free to come along for a taster even if you haven’t read the book.
Will you stock my book?
We are a general bookshop with a range or around 7,000 titles, so, given there are over 180,000 new books published every year, we have to be selective. We do try to support local authors and books of local interest. Please email details to firstname.lastname@example.org.
How do I apply to work at Mainstreet?
Please email your CV to email@example.com
