Many of you will be looking forward to the Borders Book Festival which has a strong foodie theme this year. To get you in the mood, we are delighted to welcome the Observer’s Rising Star for 2015, Olia Hercules, to Mainstreet on Wed 10th June.

Born and brought up in the Ukraine, she trained at Leith School of Food & Wine and was chef-departie at our favourite foodie haven, Ottolenghi. When researching her first cookbook, Mamushka she didn’t have to travel far… “I went home and spent a month running after my mum and my aunt with measuring spoons and scales.”

Mamushka is a joyful celebration of the food and flavours of the “Wild East” – from the Black Sea to Baku and Armenia to Azerbaijan, from the Moldovan giant cheese twist and Ukrainian buns with potatoes & shallots to Garlicky Georgian poussins with spicy plum chutney and Armenian pickled wet garlic.

Mamushka will be our Cookbook of the Moment, Olia’s recipes will take over theMainstreet café menu in June so there will be plenty of opportunity to experience her magic flavours.
