1. Indomita Polero Gran Reserva Carignan Chile, £10.50. A much overlooked red grape variety Carignan is perfect for the BBQ with fruity and aged vanilla notes rolled into one.

2. Buccia Nera Mancini Chianti Podere della Filandra Organic Italy, £18. All you’d expect from a well priced Chianti – sour cherry , juicy tannins and utterly moreish.

White Wines

3. Ciello Catarratto Sicily IGP Italy, £13. You are entering the low intervention produced wine arena here – unfined, unfiltered, this crunchy, honeyed Catarratto is a light sunny Sicilian wine but with all the best bits left in. Upbeat aperitif or good with antipasto.

4. Ournac Frères Les Poiscailles Languedoc France, £18. This is a Vin de France white from the warm south, made by a family challenging the rules while attempting to mitigate climate change by planting Assyrtiko (Greek) and Verdejo (Spain) vines. A dry, quoffable wine, fabulous with fish.

Rose

5. Biscardo Rosapasso Pinot Nero Veneto Italy, £13.50 (75cl). Firmly established favourite of staff and customers, this luscious rosé is not too boringly pale, but bright, crisp and fruity. It will transport you to sun-drenched shores, the perfect lunchtime drink. Some magnums available too.

Orange

6. Casa Balaguer Tragolargo Blanco Biodynamic Alicante Spain, £23. And for something different, a skin contact ‘orange’ wine packed with flavours of clementines and figs, sophisticated with chalky tannins. A foodie’s best friend.

Fizz

7. Sandridge Barton Classic Cuvée 2021 Extra Brut English Sparkling Wine Devon, £33. A senior wine for its price, this gorgeous fizz, aged for 20 months on the lees, is a classic in all senses. Pop it open for pour indulgence.
