We were thrilled to have former Children’s Laureate and bestselling author, Cressida Cowell, visit Mainstreet as part of our Indie Bookshop Week celebrations. She was also marking 20yrs of her most famous creation, Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III, hero of the wonderful How to Train Your Dragon series.

Cressida spent the morning at Earlston High School with children from the primary and high schools, and the afternoon in our barn at Mainstreet with St Boswells and St Peter’s primaries. She inspired everyone with her high octane talk about the power of imagination and creativity and, most of all, the vital importance of reading (and being read to) for pleasure.

It was wonderful to see so many young people wide-eyed with enthusiasm, some bringing along their much-loved, dog-eared copies of How to Train Your Dragon. The whole day was hugely nostalgic for Rosamund, bringing back happy memories of many, many family car journeys, listening to the perfect voice of David Tennant reading the audio books.
